Abstract :
Smart homes can sense people and their
activities and try to make homes fun and comfortable. Smartphones can work
together with sensors and other connected devices to make our homes
'smart'. These developments require new technologies in
communication, sensing, and data science. In this presentation, I will share
some research in new communication technologies that utilize visible light,
ultra-sonic sensing technologies that can identify people and their
activities, and finally techniques from data science to process the sensor
data to understand what is happening in those homes. These three topics are
to the most promising topics to learn and research to unlock new
opportunities for innovation, jobs, and prosperity in the future.
